New Mitsubishi Colt ClearTec
Hot on the heels of the all-new Lancer family, the recently launched next generation Colt confirms Mitsubishi Motors’ strategic evolution from a SUV-focused nameplate to being a supplier of passenger cars and crossovers, with a SUV presence.
Consistent with the latest market trends in Europe towards smaller and more fuel/emission efficient products, this new direction is further supported by the introduction of segment-specific low CO2 solutions.Key to understanding the direction taken by Mitsubishi Motors for the next generation Colt in terms of powertrain is the withdrawal of the diesel option. Instead, and thinking longer term, Mitsubishi has developed a series of ClearTec solutions for the Colt in order to supplant diesel engines. Amongst Colt’s ClearTec variants, the low CO2 package will certainly be the most noticeable, featuring – amongst others – Auto Stop & Go and High efficiency Alternator with Electricity Generation Control, all implemented to achieve significant reductions in terms of fuel consumption and, logically, CO2 emissions. They will be available for both the 1.1 three cylinder and the 1.3 four cylinder engines (5 M/T only).Colt ClearTec is produced at Mitsubishi Motors’ NedCar plant in Born (the Netherlands) alongside the other European Colt variants. It will be launched during the first quarter of 2009.
UK Police complete Evolution trilogy
The South Yorkshire police in the UK added a new police specification Lancer Evolution to its Road Crime Unit (RCU).
The South Yorkshire police in the UK added a new police specification Lancer Evolution to its Road Crime Unit (RCU).Joining an already-intimidating Evo VIII and Evo IX in the motorpool, this specially equipped Mitsubishi, building on 10 generations of explosive performance, should help keep the police ahead of the bad guys. The Lancer Evolution should be more than adequate for tracking down drug dealers and car thieves by itself, but deployed as a pack, the trio of Lancer Evolutions will probably scare offenders into simply giving up the chase. As the police say themselves: “It's a proven platform with super arrest potential!” Another example that demonstrates the Lancer Evolution reputation: performance for safety.

Other European markets will follow throughout the year.i MiEV represents the pinnacle of Mitsubishi Motors’ green technologies. Currently involved in testing and promotional activities in Japan, New Zealand, the United States and Europe, i MiEV will be launched in Japan during the summer of 2009.Providing the outcome of the current European feasibility study is positive, the car will be introduced to European markets sometime after 2010.
